History of The Coe House
The Coe House was built between 1914 and 1915 as a residence for Clarence and Martha Dow. Clarence Dow was a barber. The family lived there until 1919 when they traded the house, two lots, all household goods and a barber chair to Si Ferrin in exchange for a team of horses. It then became Emily Nelson Thompson/Mulherin/Coe’s Jackson Laundry business and residence. Emily Coe was at one point married to Blacksmith Edgar Coe, whose business was in the neighboring building that now houses King Sushi. The building was a residence owned by Martha Merean for many years, survived two fires, and became the Sweetwater Deli in 1976 while it was owned by the Crabtree family.
