History of The Ellen G. Walker Shop
The Ellen G. Walker Shop building was originally constructed in 1948 and represents the Town of Jackson’s transformation from a “budding tourism-based economy to one centered on seasonal tourism.” The cabin was built in 1948 as a woman’s clothing shop owned by Ellen Walker, a descendent of the Carey family, one of the earliest Wyoming pioneer families. The shop was originally located on Glenwood, where historic photos suggest it had a false front. Ellen Walker Smart Shoppe operated in the building until 1984. It was moved c. 1985 to S. King Street.
